Taking an Axillary Temperature (under the arm)
The thermometer tip should be placed under the arm so the tip is touching the skin.
Hold the thermometer parallel to the body and position the arm on the chest so the
probe tip is well covered by the arm. This insures the thermometer tip is not affected
by the room air. The temperature reading should take approximately sixty seconds.
The
o
F(°C) will continue to flash during the reading of the
temperature. When the peak
temperature has been reached, the
o
F(°C)
will stop flashing and the thermometer will
sound ten long beeps if the temperature is below
100
o
F(37.8°C)
. If the temperature is
above
100
o
F(37.8°C)
the unit will sound ten sets of three short beeps each. To turn the
unit off, press the POWER button. The unit will automatically power down after approxi-
mately nine minutes.
REMEMBER: Axillary temperatures are generally 1.0
o
F(0.5°C) lower than oral readings.

Thank you for purchasing a MABIS Digital Thermometer. Please read the following instructions to
achieve the most accurate temperatures and safe operation. With proper care and use, your ther-
m
ometer will provide you with years of reliable readings.
NOTE: F - indicates Fahrenheit mode
C
- indicates Celsius mode
What is a “Normal”Temperature?
Although the generally accepted “normal” temperature reading is 98.6°F/37.0°C, temperature
r
eadings can vary from 97.0°F/36.1°C to 99.0°F/37.2°C and still may be considered “normal”.
Variations in temperature can be attributed to activities such as exercise, smoking, eating and
drinking. Even time of day may influence your temperature. For example, your temperature is
lower in the morning than in the afternoon. Other variations may be due to the location of the
temperature reading. While the oral temperature follows the guidelines previously described, a
rectal temperature is generally 1.0°F/0.5°C higher. Conversely, an axillary (under the arm) tem-
perature will be 1.0°F/0.5°C lower.

o
F(°C) will continue to
f
lash during the reading of the temperature.

r
eached, the
o

(°C) will stop flashing and the
thermometer will sound ten long beeps if the
temperature is below 100
o
F(37.8°C). If the
t
emperature is above 100
