In case of products that for safety,

performance or data integrity reasons

require a permanent connection with

an incorporated battery, this battery

should be replaced by qualified service

staff only. To ensure that the battery

and the electrical and electronic

equipment will be treated properly,

hand over these products at end-of-life

to the applicable collection point for

the recycling of electrical and electronic

equipment. For all other batteries,

please view the section on how to

remove the battery from the product

safely. Hand the battery over to the

applicable collection point for the

recycling of waste batteries. For more

detailed information about recycling of

this product or battery, please contact

your local Civic Office, your household

waste disposal service or the shop

where you purchased the product or

battery.

Notes

• Depending on the model of

smartphone, the microphone of this

unit may not function, or the volume

level may be low.

• This unit is not guaranteed to

operate digital music players.

Installing the

earbuds

If the earbuds do not fit your ears

correctly, the noise cancelling effect

will not be optimal. To optimize noise

cancelling and to enjoy better sound

quality, change the earbuds to another

size, or adjust the earbuds position to

fit your ears comfortably and snugly.

The M size earbuds are attached to

the headphones before shipment. If

you feel the M size earbuds do not

suit your ears, replace them with the

supplied SS, S or L size earbuds. When

you change the earbuds, turn to install

them firmly on the headphones to

prevent the earbud from detaching and

remaining in your ear (refer Illustration

1 on “Installing the earbuds”).

Note

Prolonged use of the earbuds may

strain your ears due to their snug fit. If

you experience discomfort or pain in

your ears, recommend to take a short

break.

English Noise Cancelling

Headphones

WARNING

Do not expose batteries or appliances

with battery-installed to excessive heat,

such as sunshine and fire.

Do not install the appliance in a

confined space, such as a bookcase or

built-in cabinet.

To reduce the risk of fire, do not

cover the ventilation opening of

the appliance with newspapers,

tablecloths, curtains, etc.

Do not expose the appliance to naked

flame sources (for example, lighted

candles).

Do not expose the unit to water. The

unit is not waterproof. Remember to

follow the precautions below.

— Be careful not to drop the unit into

a sink or other container filled with

water.

— Do not use the unit in humid

locations or bad weather, such as in

the rain or snow.

— Do not get the unit wet.

If you touch the unit with wet hands,

or put the unit in a damp article of

clothing, the unit may get wet and

this may cause a malfunction of the

unit.

The validity of the CE marking is

restricted to only those countries

where it is legally enforced, mainly in

the countries EEA (European Economic

Area).

product and the battery shall not be

treated as household waste. On certain

batteries this symbol might be used in

combination with a chemical symbol.

The chemical symbols for mercury (Hg)

or lead (Pb) are added if the battery

contains more than 0.0005% mercury

or 0.004% lead. By ensuring these

products and batteries are disposed

of correctly, you will help prevent

potentially negative consequences for

the environment and human health

which could otherwise be caused by

inappropriate waste handling. The

NC Mode A: Noise mainly in an

• When the headphones are turned

the environmental ambient sound.

Notes on the noise

cancelling function

• The noise cancelling circuit actually

senses outside noise with built-in

microphones and sends an equal-

but-opposite cancelling signal to the

unit.

— Use exclusive earbuds, otherwise

noise cancelling function will not

function properly.

— Be sure the earbuds fit your ears

correctly, otherwise noise

cancelling will not function

properly.

— The noise cancelling effect may

vary depending on how you wear

the headphones.

— Do not cover the microphones of

the headphones with your hands.

The noise cancelling function may

not work properly.

Microphones of

headphones

— After you turn on the power of

the headphones, you may hear a

slight hiss. This is the operating

sound of the noise cancelling

function, not a malfunction.

— The noise cancelling function

works for noise in the low

frequency band primarily.

Although noise is reduced, it is

not cancelled completely.

— The noise cancelling effect may

not be pronounced in a very quiet

environment, or some noise may

be heard.

— When you use the headphones in

a train or a car, noise may occur

depending on street conditions.

— Mobile phones may cause

interference and noise. Should

this occur, locate the headphones

further away from the mobile

phone.

Notes on charging the

headphones

— Charge the headphones using

the supplied micro-USB cable.

Otherwise, it may cause a

malfunction.

— Charge in an environmental

temperature of between 5°C and

35°C. Otherwise, the battery may not

fully charge.

— If you have not used the

headphones for a long time, the life

of the rechargeable battery may

become short. This will improve

when you repeat the charging and

discharging process several times.

— Do not store the headphones in

hot places for a long time. If storing

them for more than a year, charge

the battery every six months to

prevent excessive discharge.

— For system requirements for a

computer that can charge the

battery using USB, see “Operating

environment”.

— If the headphones are

malfunctioning, charging will not

start and the POWER indicator will

blink. In this case, disconnect the

unit from the connected device, and

consult your place of purchase, or a

Sony dealer.

Notes on using on the

airplane

Do not use the headphones when use

of electronic equipment is prohibited

or when use of personal headphones

for in-flight entertainment services is

prohibited.

If you install the Smart Key app* from

Google Play

store, the track and volume

adjustment on your smartphone will be

enabled with multi-function button (push

button).

Notes on handling

— Because the headphones are

designed to fit closely in your ears,

forcing them against your ears may

result in eardrum damage. Avoid

using the headphones where they

are liable to be struck by people or

other objects, such as a ball, etc.

— Pressing the headphones

against your ears may produce a

diaphragm click sound. This is not a

malfunction.

— Clean the headphones with a soft

dry cloth.

— Do not leave the plug dirty

otherwise the sound may be

distorted.

— Do not leave the headphones in a

location subject to direct sunlight,

heat or moisture.

— Do not subject the headphones to

excessive shock.

— Handle the driver units carefully.

— If you feel drowsy or sick while

using this headphones, stop use

immediately.

Notes on headphones

High volume may affect your hearing.

For traffic safety, do not use while

driving or cycling.

As headphones reduce outside sounds,

they may cause a traffic accident. Also,

avoid listening with your headphones

in situations where hearing must not

be impaired, for example, a railroad

crossing, a construction site, etc.

Preventing hearing damage

Avoid using headphones at high

volume. Hearing experts advise against

continuous, loud and extended play. If

you experience a ringing in your ears,

reduce the volume or discontinue use.

Notes on static electricity

In particularly dry air conditions,

noise or sound skipping may occur,

or mild tingling may be felt on your

ears. This is a result of static electricity

accumulated in the body, and not a

malfunction of the headphones.

The effect can be minimized by

wearing clothes made from natural

materials.

If you have any questions or

problems concerning the system

that are not covered in this manual,

please consult the nearest Sony

dealer.

Troubleshooting

No sound

— Check that the unit and the audio

device are connected correctly.

— Check that the connected device is

turned on.

— Check that the unit is turned on.

— If the POWER indicator does not light

up, charge the battery.

— Turn up the volume of the

connected device.

— Reset the unit.

Insert a small pin, etc., into the hole,

and push the RESET button until you

feel a click.

RESET

— You can listen to music even when

the unit is turned off.

When the unit is turned on, you can

enjoy High-Resolution Audio sound

quality.

Low sound

— Turn up the volume of the

connected device.

The unit does not turn

on

— Charge the battery of the unit.

— Reset the unit.

Insert a small pin, etc., into the hole,

and push the RESET button until you

feel a click.

Distorted sound

— Turn down the volume of the

connected device.

— Set the equalizer setting of the

connected device to off.

— Charge the battery of the unit.

The battery cannot be

charged

— Turn off the unit.

— Check that the unit and your

computer are firmly connected using

the micro-USB cable (supplied).

— Check that the computer is turned

on and not in standby, sleep or

hibernation mode.

— Check that the unit and the

computer are directly connected,

and not via a USB hub.

— Try the USB connection procedure

again in cases other than those

stated above.

— The USB port of the connected

computer may have a problem.

Connect the unit to another USB port

of the computer if available.

— The battery is fully charged.

If the battery is fully charged, the

charging indicator may blink and go

off, and charging may not start. This

is not a malfunction.

— If the unit is not used for a long time,

the charging indicator may take

a while to light up red when you

connect it to your computer. In this

case, do not disconnect the micro-

USB cable from the unit, and wait

until the charging indicator lights

up red.

Charging time is too

long

— Check that the unit and the

computer are directly connected, not

via a USB hub.

— A cable which is not supplied is

used.

Noise is generated

— Disconnect the micro USB cable from

the unit.

— When connecting an audio device

to the analog input jack of the unit,

adjust the volume of the connected

device, then turn up the volume of

the unit.

The noise cancelling

effect is not sufficient

— Change the earbuds to another size

that fits your ears.

— Adjust the earbud position to fit your

ears comfortably.

— The noise cancelling function is

effective in low frequency ranges

such as airplanes, trains, or offices

(near air-conditioning, etc.) and

is not as effective for higher

frequencies, such as human voices.

— Turn on the headphones.

Installation des

oreillettes

Si les oreillettes ne fixent pas

correctement dans vos oreilles, l’effet

réducteur de bruits ne sera pas

optimal. Pour optimiser la réduction

des bruits et pour bénéficier de la

meilleure qualité sonore, choisissez

une autre taille d’oreillettes ou

ajustez la position des oreillettes de

façon qu’elles soient correctement

et confortablement fixées dans vos

oreilles.

Au moment de l’expédition, les

oreillettes de taille M sont fixées

au casque. Si vous sentez que les

oreillettes de taille M ne correspondent

pas à vos oreilles, remplacez-les par

les oreillettes fournies de taille SS, S ou

L. Quand vous changez les oreillettes,

installez-les solidement sur le casque

pour éviter qu’elles ne se détachent et

restent dans vos oreilles (reportez-vous

à l’illustration 1 de «Installation des

oreillettes»).

Remarque

L’utilisation prolongée des oreillettes

peut fatiguer les oreilles en raison

de leur ajustement précis. Si vous

ressentez une gêne ou des douleurs

dans les oreilles, faites une courte

pause.

Remarques sur la

fonction réductrice de

bruits

• Le circuit réducteur de bruits détecte

réellement le bruit extérieur grâce

aux micros intégrés et il envoie

un signal de réduction égal mais

opposé à l’appareil.

— Utilisez les oreillettes spécialisées,

sinon la fonction réducteur des

bruits ne fonctionne pas

correctement.

— Assurez-vous que les oreillettes

correspondent bien à vos oreilles,

sinon la réduction des bruits ne

fonctionne pas correctement.

— L’effet réducteur de bruits peut

varier selon la manière dont vous

portez le casque.

— Ne recouvrez pas les micros du

casque avec vos mains. La

fonction réductrice de bruits peut

ne pas fonctionner correctement.
